Portugal defeated Denmark 5-2 after extra time on Sunday, securing a 5-3 aggregate victory and a place in the Nations League semifinals against Germany.
Substitute Francisco Trincao played a key role, scoring twice, while Cristiano Ronaldo also found the net despite an early setback. Portugal had to fight back after Denmark led the tie 1-0 following Rasmus Hojlund’s goal in the first leg in Copenhagen.
The match started with drama as Denmark’s Patrick Dorgu fouled Ronaldo in the box just three minutes in, conceding a penalty. However, Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel denied Ronaldo’s spot kick with a sharp save.
Ronaldo nearly made up for it in the 17th minute when he connected with a header from Nuno Mendes, but once again, Schmeichel was there to stop him. Despite being substituted before extra time, Ronaldo continued to encourage his teammates from the sidelines as Portugal ultimately broke through Denmark’s defense to seal the win.
