The University of Chicago baseball team (11-4) delivered a dominant offensive performance, routing Carleton (3-3) with a resounding 25-8 victory on Thursday evening in Davenport, Florida. The Maroons’ bats were unstoppable, piling up 25 runs on 21 hits to secure their latest win.
Early Scoring Explosion Fuels Maroons
After a quiet start through the first two innings, Chicago’s offense came alive in the third, erupting for six runs. Max Weisner ignited the rally with a two-RBI single, followed by a two-RBI double from Eddie McCarthy. Jack Sharp and Braden Jirovec added RBI singles to cap off the explosive inning, giving the Maroons a commanding 6-0 lead.
The momentum carried into the fourth inning, where Chicago tacked on seven more runs. Weisner delivered another key hit, this time a two-run double, while wild pitches and a two-RBI double by Jackson Sliplock further extended the lead to 13-0.
Carleton managed to push across three runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but the deficit proved insurmountable. Chicago quickly responded with four more runs in the fifth, fueled by Weisner’s three-RBI double. The Maroons’ offense refused to slow down, erupting for another seven-run inning in the sixth. Brady Miller and Jack Sharp each delivered triples to add to the offensive onslaught.
Strong Pitching Secures the Win
Chicago’s pitching staff ensured Carleton had little chance to mount a comeback. Russell Kwinter (2-0) earned the win, pitching four solid innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out five. The bullpen provided further stability, with Mike Sosna, Grant Tenuta, and David Flanagan keeping Carleton’s lineup in check.
Standout Performances at the Plate
Several Maroons turned in big offensive performances. Weisner led the way, going 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. McCarthy and Sharp also made major contributions, each driving in five runs, while Jirovec recorded multiple hits. Miller added two RBIs with a well-timed triple.
Next Up for UChicago
The Maroons will aim to carry their momentum into their next matchup, facing Coe on Friday at 1 p.m. EST as they continue their spring break series.
