Western Michigan University’s women’s tennis team returns home this weekend for two Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchups. The Broncos will host Eastern Michigan on Friday at 12 p.m. and Northern Illinois on Sunday at 12 p.m. Both matches will take place at the West Hills Athletic Club.

Recap of Last Week
WMU opened MAC play on the road against Ball State but fell 6-1. Freshman Marielou Baudouin secured the Broncos’ only point with a strong 6-4, 6-2 victory over Isabel Tranjuatco.
Resilience on Display
The Broncos have shown an ability to bounce back after losses. This season, they have only suffered back-to-back defeats once—against Michigan State and Youngstown State. However, they quickly rebounded with a win over Cleveland State. Similar patterns followed losses to Illinois and UIC, with WMU responding with victories over Chicago State and Oakland.
Scouting Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan enters Friday’s match with a 7-7 overall record and an 0-1 start in MAC play. The Eagles lost their conference opener to Northern Illinois, 5-2. Junior Daniella Shved has been a key player at No. 1 singles, posting a 3-4 record this season.
Scouting Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois is off to an impressive start, boasting a 14-3 record in dual matches. The Huskies are also strong on the road, winning six of eight away matches. They defeated Eastern Michigan last Sunday and added a victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater. Their three losses came against Missouri (4-3), Wisconsin (6-1), and Cornell (6-1).
Looking Ahead
After this weekend, Western Michigan will travel to Eastern Michigan next Friday for a 12 p.m. matchup before returning to Kalamazoo to host Toledo on Sunday at noon.
