San Diego State women’s tennis continues Mountain West play this week, traveling to Reno for a road matchup against Nevada before returning home to host Boise State. The Aztecs will face the Wolf Pack on Friday at noon, marking their first away match since Feb. 16, and will take on the Broncos at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Aztecs Look to Build on Conference Opener
SDSU enters the weekend with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-0 start in conference play after securing a dominant 4-0 victory over Air Force last Saturday. In that match, the Aztecs played only singles, with Ninon Martinache, Yasmine Kabbaj, Zoe Olmos, and Liisa Varul each delivering straight-set wins. Martinache was especially dominant, shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 on court three. Kabbaj followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on the top court, while Olmos and Varul closed out the win with commanding performances.
Nevada’s Strong Start
The Wolf Pack (10-1, 2-0 MW) pose a tough challenge, having secured conference wins against Colorado State and Wyoming. They are led by junior Amahée Charrier, who has won six straight matches on court one, posting a 6-1 record in dual play.
In doubles, Nevada has found success with Silvia-Maria Costache and Marlene Foerster on the top court (5-2 record) and the pairing of Charrier and Kennedy Robinson, who have gone 8-1 on court two.
Boise State’s Balanced Attack
Boise State (10-3, 1-1 MW) will visit SDSU on Sunday after splitting its first two conference matches. The Broncos defeated Fresno State 5-2 before falling 4-2 to San Jose State. They are led in singles by Zdena Safarova, who holds a 10-2 record on court one, and in doubles by the duo of Safarova and Maya Dutta, who have gone 7-2 on the top court.
Looking Ahead
Following Sunday’s home match, the Aztecs will prepare for a four-match road stretch, starting with a visit to Laramie, Wyoming, to face the Cowboys on March 28 at 3 p.m. PT.
