Now, Nixey is stepping into a global position. “This new role brings together everything I love—officiating, organization, and development,” she said. “I look forward to helping technical officials advance in the sport, especially with some exciting changes coming in the future.”

A Career Built on Dedication

Following in her father’s footsteps, Nixey began her officiating journey at just 16 when she took her first umpire exam. She became a BWF (formerly IBF) Umpire in 1998 and officiated at major events, including the Athens and Beijing Olympics.

In 2009, she transitioned from umpiring to refereeing, a move that led to her appointment as Head Referee for the Paris 2024 Olympics—a career highlight.

Reflecting on her time with BOC, Nixey cherishes the moments leading up to tournaments.

“My best memories are the times after completing an event, looking back, and knowing we pulled it all together. Those long days of organizing tournaments and courses make the final outcome incredibly rewarding,” she said.

A Proud Moment for Oceania

Julie Carrel, Secretary General of Badminton Oceania, sees Nixey’s new role as a testament to the strength of the region’s officiating programs.

“Lynne’s journey proves that someone from Oceania can rise through the technical officials’ pathway and take on a prestigious global role,” Carrel said. “We are extremely proud of her achievements. While we will miss her, we know she will stay connected, particularly in the technical officiating space. We wish her all the best in this next challenge.”

Lynne Nixey’s last day with Badminton Oceania will be May 23, 2025.
