After an intense triple-overtime victory in Murfreesboro, the Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team is set to host top-seeded Dayton in the Second Round of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The game will take place inside McKenzie Arena on Saturday morning.
Tip-off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. Following the men’s game, the Chattanooga women’s basketball team will begin its Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) campaign against Alabama A&M. The game time is yet to be determined, but it promises to be an exciting day of postseason basketball in Chattanooga.
Mocs vs. Dayton: A Renewed Rivalry
Chattanooga (25-9) and Dayton (23-10) will face off for the 12th time in history. The last meeting took place on December 12, 2015, when the Mocs secured a narrow 61-59 win at UD Arena. This matchup also marks just the second time the teams have played in Chattanooga, with the first occurring on December 17, 1949.
A Historic Home Game for Chattanooga
This NIT Second Round matchup will be Chattanooga’s first home postseason game in nearly four decades. The last time the Mocs hosted a postseason contest in the NCAA Tournament, NIT, or CIT was on March 12, 1987, when they faced Cleveland State in the first round of the NIT. Overall, the Mocs have played four postseason home games in their history, all in the NIT, with a record of 2-2.
