Morocco’s national football team has been ranked second worldwide for the most victories in the 2020s, according to Transfer Market. With 49 wins in 68 matches, the Atlas Lions have outperformed several top football nations.
A major factor in Morocco’s rise was their historic 2022 World Cup run in Qatar, where they became the first African and Arab team to reach the semi-finals. Considered underdogs at the start, they stunned the world by defeating powerhouses like Spain and Portugal.
Under the leadership of coach Walid Regragui, Morocco has maintained its strong form in African competitions and international friendlies.
Argentina tops the list with 50 wins in 62 matches, largely due to their Copa America and World Cup triumphs. The United States follows Morocco in third place with 45 wins in 76 games, while Spain ranks fourth with 44 wins in 66 matches. Other top-performing nations include Japan, Portugal, Algeria, England, Mexico, and Senegal.
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, Morocco aims to keep its momentum. The team will face Tanzania and Niger later this month in African qualifiers.
“What I’m interested in now is preparing for the Niger and Tanzania matches and making sure we qualify for the World Cup,” Regragui said in a recent press conference.
FIFA recently praised Morocco’s strong position in the qualifiers, noting that their recent success and squad strength make them one of the top contenders to secure an early qualification spot for the 2026 tournament.
