Warriors Struggle in Doubles, Drop 5-2 Decision

Winona State women’s tennis came up short in their final nonconference match of the season, falling 5-2 to Fort Hays State.

The Warriors fought hard in doubles play but were swept in three tight matches. The No. 1 and No. 2 pairs both lost 6-4, while Clara Thoemke and Ally Burger pushed their No. 3 doubles match to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7-5).

In singles, Skylar Gary delivered a dominant performance at the No. 1 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Thoemke also secured a win at No. 4 singles in a hard-fought battle. She took the first set 6-4, lost the second 7-5, but rebounded with a 10-5 victory in the deciding super tiebreaker.

Despite strong efforts, Lainy Ristau (No. 2), Nikita Agrawal (No. 3), Alexandra Madjun (No. 5), and Halle Rosentreter (No. 6) were unable to clinch wins, sealing the Warriors’ defeat.

Winona State now turns its attention to conference play. The team will travel to face St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth this weekend in NSIC competition.
