Privateers Dominate in Double Victory Over Mississippi Gulf Coast CC

The New Orleans Privateers men’s and women’s tennis teams recorded another dominant performance against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, marking their second victory over the Bulldogs this season. The men’s team secured a perfect 7-0 sweep, while the women earned a 6-1 win despite playing with only five available players.

Men’s Recap

The Privateers (8-4) battled through a tough doubles round, with the top two flights decided by tiebreakers. Marc Mail and Sep de Visser prevailed 7-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Jay Temming and Joseph Townes mirrored that score at No. 2. Meanwhile, Marius Gyllerup and David Tesic cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3.

In singles, New Orleans controlled the match, winning all six contests in straight sets. Only one set extended beyond eight games.

Despite being short-handed, the Privateer women (4-6) delivered a commanding 6-1 win.

In doubles, Kateryna Kalistratova and Ananya Dhankhar dominated at No. 2 with a 6-1 win. Fleur Sprengers and Nouray Khaled clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory, breaking serve late in the set.

Singles action saw two matches go the distance:

  • Kalistratova fought through a tough battle at No. 1, winning the third set 6-3.
  • Khaled matched that score in her deciding set at No. 3.
  • Sprengers won comfortably, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2.
  • Iris Danne dominated her match, taking the first set 6-0 before finishing 6-2.
  • Dhankhar closed out the scoring with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5.

Mississippi Gulf Coast’s only point came from a forfeit at No. 6.

The Privateers will take on UTRGV on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center. The women’s match begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s match.
