March Madness delivered early excitement as the Chattanooga Mocs secured a dramatic 109-103 triple-overtime win over Middle Tennessee in the first round of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Tuesday night. The hard-fought victory took place at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
With the win, Chattanooga (25-9) claimed its first postseason victory—whether in the NCAA Tournament or NIT—since its memorable Sweet 16 run in 1997. The Mocs also earned their first NIT win since 1985. Additionally, this victory extended Chattanooga’s winning streak against Middle Tennessee (22-12) to four games, tying the longest streak in the 100-year history of the rivalry.
Chattanooga now turns its attention to the second round, where it will face the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between No. 1 seed Dayton and Florida Atlantic. The date and location of the next game will be announced soon.
