Tarleton State Secures Sixth Straight Victory with 4-3 Win Over Stephen F. Austin

Tarleton State women’s tennis continued its winning streak with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Monday at the Schlief Tennis Complex. The Texans secured the win by dominating singles play on Courts 3-6, marking their sixth consecutive victory.

Freshman Maria Castano and junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova were standout performers, each earning their 10th singles win of the season. Castano cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory on Court 5, while Mukhutdinova claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win on Court 6. Castano became the third freshman in the past two years to reach double-digit wins in her debut season. Meanwhile, Mukhutdinova extended her personal singles winning streak to seven matches.

In doubles, senior Noelia Lorca and junior Ximena Morales secured a 6-4 win on Court 2. However, SFA clinched the doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 3, giving the Ladyjacks an early lead.

Tarleton State quickly responded in singles play. Despite losses on Courts 1 and 2, the Texans gained momentum with wins from Castano and Mukhutdinova. Morales delivered a dominant performance on Court 4, defeating Antonella Taco Villarreal 6-2, 6-1 for her seventh singles win of the season.

Lorca sealed the Texans’ victory with a hard-fought battle on Court 3. She won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second by the same score. However, she rebounded in commanding fashion, taking the third set 6-0 to earn her seventh singles win of the season.

“Today was a great match,” head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. “We fought hard at every position and competed until the very end. Noelia played some of her best tennis this season, and I was impressed by our players on Courts 4 through 6. Their focus and energy helped secure another big win. I’m excited for our next match.”

Tarleton State will conclude its road trip on Tuesday against McNeese at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center before heading into Spring Break. The match is set for 1 p.m.
