The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Wofford in Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Monday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
Wofford took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Jack Deveney and Robbie Young secured a 6-3 victory over John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk. UNCG responded when Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz defeated Daniel Clivio and Jack Burdell, 7-5. The Terriers clinched the doubles point as Ian Rasheed and Hugo Rask edged out William Elmers and Luke Thomson, 7-6 (2), in a tiebreaker.
The Spartans dominated in singles play, winning five consecutive matches to seal the victory. Black led the charge with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Rasheed. Elmers followed with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 triumph over Rask, giving UNCG a 2-1 lead. Moskowitz then defeated Burdell, 6-2, 7-6 (5), extending the Spartans’ advantage to 3-1. Thomson battled back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Clivio, securing the team victory. Khrystyuk added another point with a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win against Young. Wofford’s Deveney claimed the final match of the day, defeating Gabelic 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, but UNCG had already sealed the 5-2 win.
