William & Mary women’s basketball will make history with its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Tribe is set to face High Point in the First Four on Thursday, March 20, in Austin, Texas.
Both teams enter as No. 16 seeds in the Birmingham 3 Regional. The winner will advance to play No. 1 seed Texas on Saturday, March 22. The game will tip off on Thursday and be broadcast on ESPN2.
The Tribe secured its spot in the tournament by winning the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship for the first time. William & Mary, the tournament’s No. 9 seed, pulled off a remarkable postseason run, becoming the lowest seed in CAA history to reach—and win—the championship game.
The road to the title included victories over Hofstra in the second round and a thrilling overtime upset of top-seeded N.C. A&T, 74-66, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, W&M dominated Drexel with a 76-54 win before edging No. 3 seed Campbell, 66-63, in the championship game on Sunday in Washington, D.C.
Now, the Tribe looks to continue its historic run on the national stage.
