South Korea’s An Se-young and China’s Shi Yuqi claimed victory at the All England Open, each winning their second title at the prestigious badminton tournament.
World number two Wang Zhiyi started strong in the women’s singles final, taking the first game convincingly and building a 13-10 lead in the second. However, defending champion An fought back to level the match after winning three crucial points at 18-18.
The decider remained tense, but once again, the 23-year-old South Korean surged ahead at 18-18, securing her fourth consecutive tournament victory and her second All England title.
“I had all sorts of emotions going through my mind during the second game,” An said. “The only clear thought I had was not giving up. That kept me going, and I think it made the difference today.”
She admitted the final was exhausting, saying, “The match didn’t go as planned, which made it even harder. But I’m really happy with the outcome.”
In the men’s singles final, China’s world number one Shi Yuqi delivered a composed performance to defeat Taiwan’s Lee Chia-hao 21-17, 21-19.
Lee, ranked 22nd, made a fast start, taking an early three-point lead. However, Shi responded with six consecutive points to gain control of the first game.
The second game saw another tight battle, with Lee briefly leading 10-9, but the 29-year-old Chinese star held firm. Despite a late scare at 20-19, Shi closed out the match to claim his second All England title, seven years after his first triumph in 2018.
Reflecting on his journey, Shi said, “A lot has happened in these seven years—ups and downs. I’ve reached semi-finals but couldn’t finish the job. This time, I finally did it.”
He also expressed gratitude to his supporters, adding, “I hope I can pass on positive energy and values to the fans, and in return, they give me strength and encouragement.”
