The Western Michigan men’s tennis team faced mixed results in its first road trip of Mid-American Conference (MAC) play. The Broncos fell to UIC on Thursday but rebounded with a commanding victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday.
Broncos Struggle Against UIC

UIC secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. WMU’s Ashton Adesoro and Jack Davison earned a 6-4 victory at No. 3, but UIC responded with two straight wins to clinch the point. Pedro Franca and Eldin Nokic edged Drew Evans and Brogan Pierce 6-4 at No. 1, while Artem Alekseychuk and Milos Mikovic sealed it with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
In singles, Anton Arzhankin quickly tied the match with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win. However, UIC regained control as Mihailo Savic defeated Oscar Corwin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Emil Dapcevic extended the Flames’ lead with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6, and Simon Knezevic clinched the match by beating Davison 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Adesoro provided WMU’s second point, winning 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2.
WMU Bounces Back with Strong Performance at NIU

Western Michigan responded with a dominant performance against Northern Illinois. The Broncos (12-8, 2-2 MAC) started strong by securing the doubles point. Evans and Pierce defeated Iker Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi 6-4 at No. 1, while Arzhankin and Alex Antonopoulos clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 2.
In singles, Corwin set the tone with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Pierce extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3. Adesoro then clinched the match for WMU, battling to a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 win at No. 2. NIU earned its only point at No. 1, where Arzhankin was forced to retire despite leading in the third set. Matej Kajzer added another win for WMU at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4, and Antonopoulos closed the match with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 5.
