Freshman Lorenzo Messina delivered a decisive victory on court six, securing a 4-3 win for the North Florida men’s tennis team against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at the EKU Tennis Center.
With the victory, North Florida improves to 2-0 in ASUN conference play.
Eastern Kentucky struck first, claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Meanwhile, North Florida’s Jean Deloziere and Bruno Vietri were leading 5-3 at the No. 2 position before the point was clinched by the Colonels.
The match remained tight throughout singles play. Eastern Kentucky extended its lead to 2-0 with a win on court three, but freshman Youssef Labbene responded with a comeback victory on court four, battling back from a first-set loss to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.
After Eastern Kentucky secured another point on court two, North Florida found its rhythm. Jean Deloziere dominated his match on court five with a 6-3, 6-2 win, while junior Andreas Scott fought through a three-set battle on court one, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
With the score tied at 3-3, all eyes turned to Messina on court six. The freshman stayed composed and sealed the victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
