San Diego State men’s tennis continues its month-long home stand this week, welcoming Gonzaga and Idaho to the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs will take on the Bulldogs at 2 p.m. on Wednesday before facing the Vandals at 10 a.m. on Friday.
San Diego State enters the matchups with a 6-5 overall record (0-1 Mountain West), including a 5-4 mark at home. Last weekend, the Aztecs hosted the San Diego Spring Invitational, where they finished 1-2. They secured a 4-2 win over Tulane but fell 4-2 to both Utah and Texas Tech.
Gonzaga arrives with a 7-5 record (0-0 WCC) after defeating UC San Diego 4-2 on Sunday. Giovanni Branchetti leads the team in singles, while Kai-Luca Ampaw and Jay Fairclough have recorded the most individual wins with seven each. Branchetti and Fairclough also lead in doubles, boasting a 6-2 record on the top court.
Idaho, also 7-5 (2-0 Big Sky), is riding a three-match winning streak. The Vandals recently dominated Portland State with a 7-0 victory. Francisco Gay leads the team, primarily playing in the No. 1 singles and doubles positions alongside Yu-Shun Li.
After this week’s matchups, the Aztecs will host No. 12 Harvard at the Aztec Tennis Center on March 18 at 2 p.m. PT.
