Austin Peay State University’s beach volleyball team is set to host the Governors Classic this Friday and Saturday at the Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility. The two-day event will feature four matches, with the Govs taking on Central Arkansas and Lindenwood.
The tournament kicks off with Austin Peay facing Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. match against Lindenwood. On Saturday, the Govs will play Lindenwood at 10 a.m., then close out the event with a 2 p.m. match against Central Arkansas. Senior Day celebrations will also take place on Saturday, with Gabriella MacKenzie, Jordan Morris, and Anna Kate Clark being honored before the final match of the day.
Austin Peay (1-5) is coming off a tough 5-0 loss to both South Carolina and UAB at the Wheeler Beach Bash last Saturday in South Carolina. This weekend will mark their first home matches of the 2025 season under first-year head coach Michael Hobson.
Leading the way for the Govs is the pairing of Grace Austin and Jordan Morris, who have a 3-3 record while exclusively playing in the top spot. Bailey Lasater, with a 2-4 record, has played in the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 positions, most recently teaming with MacKenzie to secure a victory against Morehead State on February 22.
Austin Peay will look to continue its recent success against Central Arkansas (3-5), with the Govs holding a 4-6 all-time record against the Bears, but having won four of the last six matchups. Central Arkansas enters the tournament following a five-set loss to Missouri State but has won five of its last six matches, including a 3-2 win over Lindenwood last Saturday. Lindenwood (5-3), coming off a 2-2 performance at Missouri State’s tournament, will also present a strong challenge after recording 5-0 sweeps over Hendrix College and Southwest Baptist Academy.
After the Governors Classic, Austin Peay will travel to Florence, Alabama, for the UNA Tournament on March 14-15, where they will face Missouri State, Chattanooga, Tusculum, and host North Alabama.
