PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 57 Old Dominion men’s tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 28 Penn on Sunday afternoon in a competitive matchup.
Match Recap
– Penn secured the doubles point after No. 3 Tal Goodman and Parashar Bharadwaj defeated Jean-Karim Olivier De Sardan and Thomas Nelson (6-2).
– Old Dominion responded at No. 2 doubles, with Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak winning 6-3 over Manfredi Graziani and Shaurya Bharadwaj.
– The deciding doubles match came down to No. 1, where Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk edged out Sanjeev Chundu and Aaron Sandler 7-5, giving ODU the opening point.
In singles, Penn quickly turned the match around:
– Graziani evened the score with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 1 Connor Van Schalkwyk.
– Sandler put the Quakers ahead, defeating No. 5 Aryan Saleh 6-3, 6-2.
– Justin Chung extended Penn’s lead with a 5-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nelson.
– The match was sealed when Shaurya Bharadwaj battled past Olivier De Sardan in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-4).
Two singles matches remained unfinished:
– No. 3 Majchrzak led Goodman 4-2 in the third set after splitting the first two (6-7 (8-10), 6-2).
– No. 2 Codie Van Schalkwyk trailed Chundu 4-5 in the third after also splitting sets (3-6, 6-2).
Next Up
Old Dominion heads to California next week for the Ed Collins Invite on Friday, March 7. Match times and opponents are yet to be determined.
