UNC Greensboro Women’s Tennis Team Falls 7-0 in SoCon Opener Against Furman
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss in its 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) opener on Thursday at Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, South Carolina.
Head Coach Mat Iandolo acknowledged Furman’s strong performance. “I tip my hat to Furman,” he said. “They competed very well today and we just could not get them out of their comfort zone in singles.”
The match began with Furman securing the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder triumphed 6-2 over Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher at court one. On court three, Alexa Griffith and Grace Thomas posted a 6-1 victory over Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson. Raegan Mitchell and Sydney Bly added a 6-4 win over Jess Dawson and Macy Hitchcock, giving Furman the advantage going into singles play.
Furman extended its lead with several dominant singles performances. Dawson won 6-0, 6-0 against Thomson on court three. Schulson followed up with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mitchell on court four. Snyder sealed the match for the Paladins with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Gallagher on court one, pushing the lead to 4-0. Hitchcock added a fifth point for Furman, defeating Bly 6-0, 6-3 on court five. Thomas completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Birkevold on court six. Marissa Pennings finished the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dodashev on court two, securing Furman’s 7-0 win.
