The North Carolina A&T men’s tennis team remains undefeated after a commanding 7-0 win over USC Sumter at the Piedmont Indoor on Thursday. The Aggies are now a perfect 4-0 on the season.
The team has yet to lose a singles or doubles match. Freshman Jindrich Brill, who won his doubles match with sophomore Lucas Coupo-Moison, described their performance: “We destroyed them. We had a good percentage on first serves and good pressure on return. We didn’t let them play.”
Brill and Coupo-Moison dominated their No. 1 doubles match, defeating USC Sumter’s Andre Dogbefu and Gian Rojas Rodriguez 6-1. The duo is now 3-0 together. Coupo-Moison added that they brought more energy and focus than last week, which helped them control the match from the start.
The Aggies clinched the doubles point when senior Ian Pedersen and sophomore Said Akbarov won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles over Lachlan Carroll and Aki Harada. Mathieu Dussaubat and Kaua finished the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles against Jakub Sevcik and Stanley Long.
Dussaubat reflected on the match: “We were down most of the match, but we picked up our energy and game. We fought through it and had a great win.”
In singles play, Coupo-Moison led the way, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against Rojas Rodriguez. Akbarov followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles over Sevcik. Brill clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Long.
“I felt great on my serve and with my movement,” Brill said. “I was patient enough and aggressive to win.”
Pedersen won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles against Harada. He now holds a 41-18 career singles record. Santos also contributed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Dogbefu at No. 3 singles. Dussaubat completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jet Capasso at No. 6 singles.
Dussaubat acknowledged his performance: “I didn’t play my best match, but I did enough to bring the point home. I’m really happy with the team’s performance because we keep fighting.”
The Aggies’ perfect season remains intact after their fourth 7-0 victory.
