Jess Park’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory for England against Spain in their Nations League clash at home in London. The win moved the Lionesses to the top of Group A in League 3, after a 1-1 draw with Portugal earlier in the week.
Park’s decisive goal came just after the half-hour mark, following a strong build-up from Alessia Russo. Russo’s impressive work on the ball allowed her to cut inside and deliver a perfect pass to Park, who made no mistake with a close-range finish.
Spain started the match strongly, with Salma Paralluelo’s skillful run inside the box in the opening minutes causing problems for the England defense. Moments later, Lucia Garcia’s shot hit the crossbar, following a poor clearance from England. Despite the early Spanish pressure, England gradually found their rhythm, with Lauren James playing a pivotal role in the attack.
James created chances for England, with a free-kick and a curling shot both saved by Spanish goalkeeper Catarina Coll. Millie Bright also played a key role in the build-up, finding James with a long ball over the top, but Coll was alert to deny the forward.
In the second half, Spain continued to press for an equalizer, but England’s defense, led by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, stood firm. Hampton made crucial saves from Aitana Bonmati and Paralluelo, while England also had opportunities to extend their lead, with James and Grace Clinton both testing Coll.
Spain’s best chance to equalize came late in the game when Athenea del Castillo crossed to Paralluelo, but the forward was crowded out by England defenders. The visitors continued to threaten, but England’s defense and Hampton’s crucial saves kept them at bay.
The match ended 1-0, giving England their first win in the Nations League campaign and putting them in a strong position in Group A.
