The UT Arlington men’s tennis team improved to 5-5 on the season and extended their winning streak to three matches with a 4-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks dominated, claiming their third consecutive sweep and marking the fifth time this season they have shut out an opponent. With the win, UTA improved their home record to 2-3 and will now hit the road for five upcoming matches.
This victory also gave UTA their eighth all-time win over the Islanders, with the Mavs now holding an 8-16 overall series record and 6-7 at home.
The Islanders, on the other hand, dropped their third straight match, falling to 8-3 overall and 5-2 on the road.
UTA earned the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3. Meethre Barot and Pedro Sasso started the scoring with a 6-1 victory on Court 1, followed by Andres Medus and Mattia Ricci, who secured the doubles point with a 7-6 tiebreaker win on Court 3.
In singles play, Medus was the first to add a point for the Mavericks, defeating Tom Berry 6-4, 6-3 on Court 2. Sasso quickly made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nicolas Trebuchet on Court 4. Barot clinched the match for UTA with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victory over Nathan Favier.
The Mavericks will travel to Abilene to face Abilene Christian tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Teague Center.
