Barcelona and Atletico Madrid Draw 4-4 in Thrilling Copa del Rey Semifinal First Leg

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played out a dramatic 4-4 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona. Both teams staged impressive comebacks after going down two goals.

Atletico stunned the hosts with quick goals from Julian Alvarez in the first minute and Antoine Griezmann in the sixth. However, Barcelona responded strongly, with Pedri and Pau Cubarsi scoring within two minutes of each other to level the score by the 21st minute. Barcelona then took a 3-2 lead into halftime after Iñigo Martínez scored in the 41st minute.

In the second half, Robert Lewandowski extended Barcelona’s advantage in the 74th minute, but Atletico weren’t done yet. Marcos Llorente scored in the 84th minute, and substitute Alexander Sorloth sealed the draw in stoppage time with a close-range finish.

The second leg will take place at Atletico’s Metropolitano Stadium in April. The winner will face either Real Madrid or Real Sociedad, who will play their first-leg match on Wednesday.

Barcelona last won the Copa del Rey in 2021, while Atletico’s last victory came in 2013. The two teams last met in December, with Atletico winning 2-1 in La Liga.
