Ramkumar Ramanathan, Manas Dhamne, and Karan Singh Out of Bengaluru Open After First-Round Losses
Wildcard entry Ramkumar Ramanathan was eliminated from the Bengaluru Open 2025 on Tuesday after a tough first-round loss to seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki. Ramanathan pushed the Japanese player to the limit in both sets but ultimately lost 7(7)-6(3), 7-5 at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium.
Indian teenager Manas Dhamne also saw his campaign end in the opening round. Dhamne lost to qualifier Petr Bar Biryukov in a thrilling match, 6-3, 3-6, 7(7)-6(3). After losing the first set, Dhamne fought back to win the second 6-3. However, the 17-year-old couldn’t finish strong in the third, losing in a tiebreak.
India’s Karan Singh was also knocked out after a hard-fought battle with Austria’s Jurij Rodionov. Singh lost 6-4, 4-6, 7(7)-6(3) in a tight match.
In an exciting upset, Czech qualifier Hynek Barton stunned top seed Vit Kopriva. After dropping the first set, Barton came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted just over two hours.
Former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic bounced back from a set down to defeat qualifier Ilia Simakin 3-6, 7(7)-6(4), 6-4. Tomic displayed strong resilience to move into the next round.
Second seed Tristan Schoolkate from Australia survived a tough match against Khumoyun Sultanov, eventually winning 7-5, 6(5)-7(7), 6-3 to progress.
However, fifth seed Kyrian Jacquet, the Delhi Open singles champion, suffered a surprising loss to unseeded James McCabe. Jacquet fell 6(6)-7(8), 6-1, 6-2 in a surprising upset.
