Wildcard entry Ramkumar Ramanathan was eliminated from the Bengaluru Open 2025 in the first round on Tuesday after a strong challenge against seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki. Ramanathan fought hard in both sets but ultimately lost 7(7)-6(3), 7-5 at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium.
Indian teen tennis star Manas Dhamne also faced an early exit, losing to qualifier Petr Bar Biryukov in a tightly contested match. Dhamne lost the first set 6-3 but bounced back to win the second set 6-3. However, in the deciding tiebreaker, the 17-year-old couldn’t hold on and lost 7(7)-6(3).
India’s Karan Singh followed suit, bowing out in the first round after a tough battle against Austria’s Jurij Rodionov. Singh fought hard but was ultimately defeated 6-4, 4-6, 7(7)-6(3).
In an exciting twist, Czech qualifier Hynek Barton pulled off a major upset by knocking out top seed Vit Kopriva. Barton came from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted just over two hours.
Elsewhere, former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic made a strong comeback, recovering from a set down to beat qualifier Ilia Simakin 3-6, 7(7)-6(4), 6-4.
Australian second seed Tristan Schoolkate was also tested early against Khumoyun Sultanov but secured a 7-5, 6(5)-7(7), 6-3 victory to progress to the next round.
However, Delhi Open champion and fifth seed Kyrian Jacquet suffered a surprising defeat, falling to unseeded James McCabe 6(6)-7(8), 6-1, 6-2.
