Tommy Paul, the 27-year-old American tennis player, has shared how his perspective on tennis has shifted over the years. After breaking into the ATP Top 10, Paul is now focused on pushing his limits and achieving greater success in his career.
Paul spoke about his personal evolution in a recent interview with Tennis.com, especially regarding his relationship with tennis. He admits that his journey to the top has been a process of self-discovery and growth. His feelings about the sport changed significantly as he matured, and he now views himself as a serious contender for more prestigious titles.
Paul’s breakthrough into the Top 10 is a significant milestone in his career, but he insists there’s still more to come. He aims for even greater heights, including a spot in the Top 5 and additional major tournament victories.
Reflecting on his earlier years, Paul explained that he didn’t truly begin to enjoy tennis until he was 21. “When I was younger, I had many tough moments with tennis,” he said. “I made a lot of sacrifices but wasn’t getting the results I wanted. My college friends were having fun, but when they started settling into office jobs, I realized how lucky I was to be able to pursue tennis professionally. That’s when I started to truly enjoy training and improvement. Tennis became not just a job, but something I loved.”
Paul is now committed to constant improvement and has a strong work ethic. He emphasized that tennis is his top priority, and everything in his life revolves around the sport. “I work so hard that sometimes, before tournaments, I get stressed,” Paul revealed. “My team encourages me to take a break, so I go fishing to clear my mind. It helps me reset.”
With the 2025 Acapulco ATP 500 on the horizon, Paul is determined to make his mark. Under the guidance of coach Brad Gilbert, Paul continues to focus on refining his skills as he targets bigger goals in his career.
