During a courtesy visit to the High Commission, the association’s board, led by Chairman Comptroller Usman Bappa (Rtd), met with the Head of Chancery, Pramod Kumar Agrawal. Bappa highlighted the Indian community’s active involvement in badminton and expressed a desire for collaboration.
“We are here to seek your partnership. We have noticed the Indian High Commission and the Indian community’s strong participation in badminton. This is not surprising, as the sport has historical roots in Ancient Greece, China, and India,” Bappa said.
He also shared the association’s plans to organize a badminton competition for underprivileged children, both in-school and out-of-school. Additionally, he discussed the upcoming Area Councils Badminton Cup, which will conclude with the Nyesom Wike Tournament.
The association is also planning the Asian Badminton Cup, which will include participants from various Asian communities, not just the Indian community. “This event honors FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and we are excited about the Indian community’s involvement,” Bappa added.
To further develop the sport, the association is working to equip over 45 clubs in the FCT and provide regular training for players and officials. However, Bappa appealed for support, citing the high cost of equipment.
In response, Agrawal praised the initiative for promoting inclusivity and boosting badminton’s growth in the FCT. He assured the association of the High Commission’s support.
