Nike and Football Australia have teamed up with Kamilaroi artist Reko Rennie to launch the first-ever Australian National Football Team Collection designed by a First Nations artist. The collaboration highlights both organizations’ commitment to using football as a platform to bring diverse communities together.
The new collection is centered on progress, cultural representation, and inspiration, with Rennie’s bold design featured across all national football teams, including the CommBank Matildas, Subway Socceroos, as well as senior, youth, Paralympic, and futsal teams.
Reko Rennie shared his personal connection to the project, saying, “Growing up in the western suburbs of Melbourne, I saw firsthand how the game united my local community. I am proud to have designed this kit. It’s a bold statement of cultural visibility, celebrating diverse communities and a message of unity from the world’s oldest continuous civilization, united through football.”
At the heart of the collection is a striking motif inspired by patterns from First Nations message sticks, which were historically used to communicate between communities. This symbol of connection and storytelling is featured in a new painting by Rennie, added to his REKOSPECTIVE exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. It highlights football’s ability to unite people across generations and cultures.
The collection carries a powerful message of inclusion, elevating First Nations culture on both the national and global stage. It also aligns with the shared identity of the Matildas and Socceroos: “Forever Forging Forward.”
James Johnson, CEO of Football Australia, emphasized the diversity of the sport, stating, “Football is Australia’s most diverse team sport, and its multiculturalism is its superpower. These new kits reflect our commitment to inclusion, innovation, and inspiring the next generation of footballers.”
Nike and Football Australia have ensured that the collection resonates with fans, marking the beginning of a new era for the national teams. The unique design features artistic elements never seen before in Australian football.
“Nike Football has always been a catalyst for change in the game,” said Ashley Reade, VP/GM of Nike Pacific. “We’re proud to partner with Reko Rennie and Football Australia for this collection and can’t wait to see Australians come together to support their national teams.”
The new collection, which includes home and away jerseys for men, women, and kids, will be available starting February 21 at nike.com, the Football Australia online shop, and select retail partners.
Nike proudly partners with and celebrates First Nations athletes, organizations, and communities. In Australia, Nike acknowledges that its employees live and work on the unceded lands of First Nations peoples.
