A Tunisian court has sentenced Wadie Jary, the former president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), to four years in prison for corruption. His lawyer confirmed the ruling on Thursday. Jary, who has been in custody since October 2023, was found guilty of involvement in an illegal contract with a technical director, according to a spokesperson from the sports ministry.
Jary, who led the FTF since 2012, has faced various allegations over the years, including match-fixing and financial misconduct. He has consistently denied these claims. His leadership was also marked by ongoing conflicts with the sports ministry regarding his decisions within the federation.
Jary’s lawyer, Kamel Ben Khelil, announced plans to appeal the verdict. The case against him stems from a judicial complaint lodged by the Ministry of Youth and Sports related to the improper contract.
The sentencing of Jary highlights ongoing concerns about corruption in Tunisian football.
