LOS ANGELES – The No. 18 USC women’s tennis team is preparing to take on California this Friday, February 21, at David X. Marks Stadium. The match is part of USC’s seven-game homestand.
The Women of Troy have had a strong start to the season, winning four of their first five matches. They are coming off a dominant 4-0 sweep of San Diego and are now ready to face a former Pac-12 rival in one of their final nonconference matchups.
California enters the match with a 1-2 record, having lost two consecutive matches after winning their season opener. Despite this, the Golden Bears are bringing a strong lineup, featuring four ranked singles players: No. 37 Katja Wiersholm, No. 65 Mao Mushika, No. 70 Lan Mi, and No. 106 Berta Passola Folch. California also boasts two ranked doubles teams: No. 14 Wiersholm and Mushika, and No. 37 Mushika and Jessica Alsola.
USC is looking to its own four ranked players to lead the way. Senior Grace Piper is ranked No. 43, junior Emma Charney is No. 53, sophomore Immi Haddad is No. 63, and freshman Jana Hossam is No. 71. Both Hossam and Piper have had impressive starts to the season, with Hossam going 4-0 and Piper posting a 3-1 record.
With just two home matches remaining before conference play begins, USC is eager to continue improving its performance. First serve against California is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
