The North Dakota State baseball team suffered a 13-2 loss to Lamar on Wednesday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont, Texas, under chilly conditions.
Lamar (4-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single. NDSU (0-5) quickly responded in the second, with Noah Gordon driving in Davis Hamilton to tie the game 1-1 on an RBI groundout. However, Lamar answered back in the bottom half, scoring six runs on six hits, including a two-run double by Reese Beheler, to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
NDSU managed to add another run in the third inning when Luis Garcia scored on a passed ball, narrowing the gap to 7-2. But Lamar would go on to score six more unanswered runs over the next four innings to seal the 13-2 win.
Matt Sargeant (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs with one strikeout over 2.0 innings. Landon Koenig pitched in relief, striking out two batters in one inning of work.
At the plate, Jake Schaffner went 3-for-4, while Davis Hamilton added a hit and a run for the Bison.
