Grand Slam champions Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova are among four wildcard entrants announced for next month’s ATP and WTA Indian Wells tournament. The event, scheduled for March 5-16, will also feature rising ATP stars Joao Fonseca and Learner Tien, who will make their main draw debuts.
Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, will return for her 10th appearance at Indian Wells. The 44-year-old American has not competed in a WTA event since March 2024, when she played in Miami.
Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, will return after a 15-month maternity break. The 34-year-old Czech left-hander gave birth to her son, Petr, last July, and will make her 13th appearance at the California event.
Fonseca, 18, made headlines last week by winning his first ATP title at the Argentina Open, becoming the youngest Brazilian to win an ATP title in the Open era.
Tien, a 19-year-old American, reached the fourth round of the Australian Open last month. His impressive run made him the youngest player to reach the second week of Melbourne since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
