HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team (4-2, 2-0 Big West) secured a 6-1 victory over UC Riverside on Wednesday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts, marking their first mainland road win of the season.
The Rainbow Wahine clinched the doubles point with strong performances. The No. 3 doubles team of Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno dominated Chloe Vu and Crystal Kim, winning 6-1. Hawai’i’s No. 2 team, Nikola Homolkova and Ana Vilcek, also delivered, defeating Niki Shahbazi and Sam Condevillamar 6-2 to seal the doubles point.
Hawai’i quickly wrapped up the match in singles. Emma Fogac secured the final point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Keio Kato. Joelle Lanze gave UH an early lead, beating Crystal Kim 6-3, 6-1 on Court 3. Allaire Berl followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Condevillamar on Court 6. Galindo then held off Vu 7-5, 6-4, and Homolkova triumphed over Shahbazi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The match was already decided at 6-0 before UCR’s Ramey Yu won a third-set super tiebreaker against UH’s Peppi Ramstedt.
The Rainbow Wahine continue their Southern California road trip with a match against San Diego on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m. HT, followed by a matchup against San Diego State on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10:00 a.m. HT.
