India’s experienced doubles duo of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni powered through to the quarterfinals of the Maha Open 2025 tennis tournament on Wednesday, delivering a dominant performance.
The Indian pair defeated Belgium’s Michael Geerts and Britain’s Billy Harris with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 scoreline at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium.
Top-seeded Indians Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth also advanced to the quarterfinals, overcoming Denmark’s August Holmgren and Elmer Moller 6-3, 7(9)-6(7).
This sets up an exciting all-Indian quarterfinal clash between Myneni-Ramanathan and Nedunchezhiyan-Prashanth.
In another match, India’s Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Zimbabwe’s Courtney John Lock teamed up to edge past the Canadian pair of Alexis Galarneau and Kelsey Stevenson, winning 6-4, 7(7)-6(1).
However, there was a major upset in the doubles draw as the Russian duo of Petr Bar Biryukov and Ilia Simakin defeated third-seeded Anirudh Chandrasekar and Chinese Taipei’s Ray Ho, winning 7(7)-6(3), 6(5)-7(7), 10-4.
Other Indian wildcards, including Siddhant Banthia, Parikshit Somani, Karan Singh, and Nitin Kumar Sinha, were all eliminated from their respective doubles matches.
In the singles draw, eighth-seeded Alexis Galarneau from Canada secured his place in the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over wildcard Michael Geerts of Belgium.
Defending champion Valentin Vacherot of Monaco defeated Japanese qualifier Masamichi Imamura 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour.
Czechia’s Dalibor Svrcina also advanced, beating Austria’s Jurij Rodionov 6-4, 7-5, while Ilia Simakin outclassed Australia’s James McCabe 6-2, 6-4 to book his spot in the last eight.
