Ford New Zealand has renewed its partnership with New Zealand Football (NZF), reinforcing its commitment to the growth of women’s football and futsal across the country. The renewed collaboration will see Ford continue as the official naming partner of the Ford Football Ferns, the Ford Women in Leadership programme, and the newly added Ford Futsal Ferns.
This partnership renewal comes at a pivotal moment for women’s sports in New Zealand, with participation in the women’s game soaring by 27% since the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Ford’s extended support will bolster initiatives at every level of the sport — from international competitions to grassroots community programs.
As the naming partner of the Ford Football Ferns, Ford will continue to play a key role in supporting New Zealand’s national women’s football team. In addition, Ford will back the women’s Dettol National League and continue its involvement at the grassroots level through the Ford Women in Leadership programme.
In another major development, Ford will deepen its involvement with futsal, a sport experiencing rapid growth in New Zealand. The company will remain the naming partner of the Ford Futsal SuperLeague, which will achieve gender parity in 2025 with the introduction of a women’s competition. Ford will also take on the naming rights of the Ford Futsal Ferns, New Zealand’s national women’s futsal team, as they prepare for their FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup debut this November in the Philippines.
James Wear, General Manager of Brand and Partnerships at New Zealand Football, expressed excitement about the renewed partnership. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Ford, whose support has been integral to the growth of women’s football and futsal in New Zealand. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 sparked a massive surge in interest, and Ford’s continued backing will help our programmes thrive both domestically and internationally.”
Wear also highlighted the significance of Ford’s expanded support for futsal, especially with the Futsal Ferns preparing for their first-ever World Cup appearance. “Ford’s increased support of futsal will elevate the profile of the sport in New Zealand, adding momentum to what is already a historic year for the team.”
Cameron Thomas, Marketing Director at Ford New Zealand, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the partnership. “We are proud to continue supporting New Zealand Football, helping the sport thrive at all levels. As a company deeply invested in New Zealand’s sporting culture, it’s rewarding to see the positive impact of our partnership in the growth and development of women’s sport.”
Looking ahead, Ford will continue to sponsor the 2025 Ford Futsal SuperLeague, which runs from February to April. For the first time, the league’s games will be livestreamed across multiple courts simultaneously, thanks to a new broadcasting partnership with FIFA+.
The Ford Football Ferns will face Costa Rica in two international friendly matches in February 2025, with games scheduled for February 23 and 26 at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
