Long Beach Wilson standout receiver Max Barbee is headed to Purdue University after an exceptional senior season that saw him help lead the Bruins to their first-ever CIF Championship game. Barbee, who will continue his academic and athletic career in West Lafayette, is set to make his mark on the collegiate stage.
In his first two years at Wilson, Barbee recorded just 16 receptions each season. However, he experienced a breakout year as a senior, amassing 68 catches for 1,220 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver flourished under the guidance of head coach DeSean Jackson, becoming one of the top playmakers in the area.
Reflecting on his journey, Barbee expressed that despite the early setbacks, he always believed in his potential. “I’ve always felt like I had the ability and the talent, but circumstances kind of prevented a night like this from happening,” Barbee said earlier this year. “It’s really good for my confidence just actually seeing it happen. I’ve always believed it could happen, but it actually happening is nice. Now we just build on it.”
Barbee’s remarkable progression is a testament to his perseverance and the mentorship he received at Wilson, marking the beginning of what promises to be a bright future at Purdue.
