Sinner Updates on Injury Ahead of Shelton Semifinal

Jannik Sinner is making a strong bid to defend his title at the 2025 Australian Open, advancing to the semifinals and matching the record for the most semifinal appearances by an Italian player in Grand Slam history, a record previously held by Nicola Pietrangeli. Sinner, currently ranked No. 1 in the ATP standings, has also become the first Italian to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open on multiple occasions, surpassing fellow countryman Matteo Berrettini.

In the quarterfinals, Sinner secured his tenth consecutive victory over Alex De Minaur, who struggled to pose any significant challenge in front of a home crowd. Sinner’s commanding performance showcased his dominance, as he delivered a decisive lesson to the Australian player. Following the match, Sinner reflected on the significance of reaching the semifinals again, stating, “Every time it’s different. The first time you remember forever, and when you find yourself in this position, you are happy to be there. You should never take anything for granted.”

Addressing his physical condition, Sinner noted that he underwent blood tests after his previous match against Holger Rune, which returned positive results. “Sometimes you don’t feel good on the court. Today I woke up well. I’m not worried, and I felt great on the court,” he reassured reporters. Looking ahead to his semifinal clash with Ben Shelton, Sinner acknowledged the challenge posed by the American’s aggressive playing style and powerful serve. “I expect a tough match. He is one of the best big servers on Tour. It will be difficult for both,” he remarked. Sinner also expressed his satisfaction with his performance against De Minaur, emphasizing the importance of securing early breaks in each set and acknowledging the unique challenges each match presents.
