Bayern Munich has bolstered its squad for the upcoming season by signing highly regarded German midfielder Tom Bischof from Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim. The 19-year-old talent will join the Bavarian club on a free transfer and has secured a contract that runs through June 2029, as announced by Bayern on Tuesday.
Bischof, who made headlines as Hoffenheim’s youngest-ever Bundesliga player when he debuted at just 16 years and 263 days in March 2022, has made a significant impact in Germany’s top division. Over the course of 41 appearances, he established himself as a key player for Hoffenheim. Despite the club’s efforts to negotiate a contract extension, they were unable to come to terms amid interest from prominent teams, including Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker expressed disappointment over losing Bischof, stating, “It’s no secret that we would have loved to extend Tom’s contract beyond June 30. We tried everything to convince him of the club in the last year of his contract.” Meanwhile, Bischof joins Bayern at a time when he will have the opportunity to compete for a midfield position, especially with Leon Goretzka expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund praised Bischof as “one of the biggest German talents,” highlighting the midfielder’s potential as he transitions to one of Europe’s elite clubs. Additionally, Bischof has represented Germany at various youth levels, earning the Fritz Walter Medal as the country’s best under-19 player last year.
