World No. 1 Alcaraz experienced minor discomfort during his round of 16 match against Holger Rune but managed to regain control, dominating the third and fourth sets after receiving extended medical treatment off the court.
With Taylor Fritz’s elimination, Sinner has emerged as the clear favorite in the upper half of the draw, where he will face Australian player Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals. De Minaur is currently in exceptional form and will benefit from the support of local fans. However, he has yet to secure a victory over Sinner in their professional encounters, which could pose a significant challenge given Sinner’s strong playing style.
Alcaraz’s path to the semifinals is notably more challenging, as he prepares to take on ten-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic in what promises to be one of the most thrilling matches of the event. Should Alcaraz triumph over the Serbian legend, he could potentially face Sascha Zverev in a rematch of last year’s encounter, with Zverev set to compete against American Tommy Paul. In a recent interview with Eurosport, former world No. 1 Jim Courier commented on the strengths of both Sinner and Alcaraz, noting Sinner’s understanding that his baseline level is sufficient to win matches, while also recognizing the need to elevate his game to compete against the likes of Djokovic and Alcaraz for the title.
