Badminton star An Se-young triumphed in the women’s singles at the India Open in New Delhi on Sunday, securing her second international title of the year.
An dominated the final, defeating Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand with scores of 21-12 and 21-9 for a straightforward 2-0 win.
The 22-year-old was in superb form throughout the tournament, winning each match with a 2-0 scoreline.
This victory at the India Open follows her earlier success at the Malaysia Open on January 12. These back-to-back titles highlight her strong performance on the global stage.
An has built an impressive career since debuting internationally at the age of 13, capturing numerous titles along the way. She reached the peak of her career last year by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
In addition to the Olympic gold, An ended 2024 with four international titles — the Malaysia Open, French Open, Singapore Open, and China Masters.
After her Olympic victory, An used her platform to bring attention to issues within the Badminton Korea Association (BKA), prompting the Sports Ministry to investigate. This led to the BKA abolishing certain practices, such as restricting non-national team players from competing internationally and mandating uniforms with BKA sponsors.
Looking ahead, An will compete in a full lineup of HSBC Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour events this year, preparing for the prestigious BWF World Championships in August.
An has already earned one gold and one bronze at the World Championships, as well as two gold medals at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. At the Games, she made history by becoming the first female Korean player in 29 years to win gold in women’s singles.
