Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus is set to undergo surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during the team’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. The Premier League club confirmed the injury on Tuesday following scans conducted on his left knee.
In a statement, Arsenal announced, “Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation program.” While the club did not provide a specific timeline for his return, it is anticipated that Jesus will miss the remainder of the season. Earlier, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta indicated that the prognosis for the forward was “not looking good at all.”
As Arsenal prepares to face Tottenham on Wednesday, the team is already dealing with the absence of Bukayo Saka, who is sidelined due to a hamstring injury. In light of these setbacks, Arteta revealed that the club is “actively looking in the market to improve the squad” during the January transfer window. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities to enhance the team, stating, “It would be naive not to do that because it is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad, especially with the circumstances.”
