Real Madrid’s 3-Game Home Streak After Loss

Following a disappointing 5-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final held in Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid is eager to find solace in a series of upcoming home matches. The team is set to play three consecutive games at home over the next week, beginning with a Copa del Rey clash against Celta Vigo on Thursday. This will be followed by a La Liga encounter with Las Palmas on Sunday and a Champions League matchup against Salzburg on January 22.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed the team’s disappointment but emphasized the need to move forward. “We are sad and disappointed,” he stated. “We have no option but to look forward and try to regain the good momentum that we had until this match against Barcelona.” Prior to the loss, Madrid had enjoyed a five-game winning streak across all competitions, but their recent struggles against Barcelona, which included a 4-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu in October, have raised concerns.

Midfielder Luka Modric echoed Ancelotti’s sentiments, calling for unity and a strong reaction to the setback. “We have to stick together, be a team and react the same as we did after losing to them in La Liga,” he noted. Modric acknowledged the frustration of seeing their rivals score nine goals in two matches, but he remains optimistic about the team’s ability to recover. Madrid currently sits second in the Spanish league, just one point behind city rivals Atletico Madrid, and five points ahead of Barcelona. However, Ancelotti faces challenges ahead, including the suspension of forward Vinícius Júnior and a defense that struggled against Barcelona’s potent attack. With injuries to key players like Éder Militão and Dani Carvajal, the coach may need to explore new signings during the transfer window to bolster his squad.
