Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continued its unbeaten run in the French league, securing a 2-1 victory over Saint-Etienne on Sunday. With this win, PSG remains seven points clear at the top of the table as the season reaches its halfway mark. Ousmane Dembélé was the standout performer, scoring both goals for the defending champions, who have now established a significant lead over their closest rivals.
Dembélé opened the scoring in the 13th minute and doubled the lead from the penalty spot just ten minutes later. The penalty was awarded after a video review confirmed a handball by Léo Pétrot on Achraf Hakimi’s cross, a decision that sparked debate given that the ball appeared to graze Pétrot’s hand unintentionally. With this brace, Dembélé brought his league tally to 10 goals, tying him with teammate Bradley Barcola and placing him just one goal behind co-leaders Jonathan David of Lille and Mason Greenwood of Marseille.
Despite their commanding position, PSG exhibited signs of vulnerability, nearly conceding an equalizer as the match progressed. Saint-Etienne, currently sitting in 16th place, found a glimmer of hope when Zuriko Davitashvili curled in a free kick midway through the second half. Meanwhile, in other league action, seventh-placed Lens edged out Le Havre 2-1, thanks to a late goal from Deiver Machado, while struggling Le Havre remains in the relegation zone after suffering five consecutive league defeats.
In additional matches, Strasbourg climbed to ninth place with a 2-1 victory over Toulouse, where VAR played a crucial role in determining key moments of the game. At the bottom of the table, Montpellier faced further woes, losing 3-1 to Angers, culminating in two late red cards that underscored their struggles this season.
