In a display of remarkable skill and determination, JuJu Watkins scored 35 points to lead No. 4 Southern California to a decisive 95-73 victory over Penn State on Sunday night. This matchup marked one of the first sporting events in Los Angeles following the devastating wildfires that have affected the region. Watkins showcased her shooting prowess, going 13 of 15 from the field, including a perfect 8 for 8 in the first half. She also excelled at the free-throw line, making 7 of 9 attempts, while securing 11 rebounds, five steals, and three blocks. Her performance included a key three-pointer that sparked the Trojans’ scoring surge and a three-point play that concluded the run, demonstrating her ability to impact the game on both ends of the court. Kiki Iriafen added 28 points for USC, helping the Trojans improve to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in Big Ten play.

The Nittany Lions (9-8, 0-6) struggled to find their footing, with Talayah Walker leading the team with 18 points. Penn State has not secured a victory since December 11, resulting in a six-game losing streak and seven losses in their last nine outings. Despite outscoring USC 21-20 in the third quarter, the Lions found themselves trailing by as many as 24 points. A notable moment for USC came from freshman Kayleigh Heckel, who scored five consecutive points in the third, showcasing her skill by driving the length of the court for a layup and following it up with a three-pointer that extended the lead to 26 points. The game was marred for Penn State by 21 turnovers, which allowed USC to capitalize with 27 points off those mistakes.
