Clonmel High School’s Under-15 rugby team secured the McCarthy Plate with a 39-30 victory over Crescent College Comprehensive from Limerick in an exciting final at Fethard Town Park.
The game showcased free-flowing rugby from both sides, providing plenty of entertainment for spectators.
Clonmel’s first-half dominance saw them score five tries, with Sean Callery crossing the line three times and Sam Power adding two, alongside a conversion. Crescent College responded with two tries, but Clonmel led 27-10 at halftime.
In the second half, Clonmel continued to assert their control with additional tries from Eddie Lawless and Rory O’Dwyer, while Sam Power added another conversion. Crescent College fought back fiercely, scoring four tries, but Clonmel’s early lead proved insurmountable, and the match ended 39-30 in their favor.
Peter Silke of Munster Rugby presented the McCarthy Plate to High School captain Tony O’Brien, praising both teams for delivering an excellent final.
