Men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi continued their strong performance at the Malaysian Open, advancing to the quarter-finals.
On Thursday, January 9, Yew Sin and Ee Yi won a hard-fought match against South Korea’s 2023 world champion Kang Min-hyuk and his new partner Jin Yong. The Malaysian pair triumphed 23-21, 16-21, 21-18 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
The previous day, the world No. 24 duo had caused a major upset by defeating Indonesia’s world No. 4 Fajar Alfian and Rian Ardianto.
Yew Sin and Ee Yi will next face either their teammates Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub, or India’s 2022 Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty for a spot in the semi-finals.
Wee Kiong and Azriyn had earlier secured their place in the second round by defeating China’s Xie Haonan and Zeng Weihan 21-15, 12-21, 21-18 on Wednesday, January 8.
