Making his return to the court at the Brisbane International after an 18 – month hiatus from official tournaments, the Australian couldn’t resist weighing in on his Italian rival. The former Wimbledon Championships finalist’s jibe at the current ATP No.1 quickly spread like wildfire across social media.
The ATP No.1, Jannik Sinner, is in Australia to defend his title at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of his career. During his preparations, he chose to train with Cruz Hewitt, the 16 – year – old son of Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt. After sharing the Rod Laver Arena with Sinner, Cruz took to Instagram to post about the experience.
Kyrgios didn’t hold back. He promptly commented on the photo, stating, “I love you Cruz, but this is not good.” His initial comment was swiftly followed by an even more pointed one. He added, “Contaminated post,” accompanied by a syringe emoticon. This marks yet another instance of the 29 – year – old Kyrgios attacking the Italian champion, who has consistently refrained from responding to such provocations, maintaining a resolute silence.
It seems that Sinner has become an object of fixation for Kyrgios. Even after suffering a loss in his recent Brisbane debut against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Kyrgios found the time to direct more remarks at Sinner. Responding to a user who noted the age difference between him and the young French opponent, Kyrgios quipped, “At least I haven’t failed any anti – doping tests yet.”
The question on everyone’s mind is whether this ongoing social media feud will ever come to an end. Perhaps a face – to – face clash on the court could provide a definitive resolution to Kyrgios’ fixation. The Australian, known for his star – quality on the court, is still in contention to play in Melbourne despite wrist issues that surfaced in Brisbane.
