Kaizer Chiefs are focused on strengthening their squad during the current transfer window, with plans to both add and offload players. However, the club is also aiming to protect some of their key first-team players by offering new contracts or extensions.
One of those players is Ashley du Preez, the speedy attacker who joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC three seasons ago. While du Preez has shown flashes of potential, he has not yet become a standout performer for the club. His performances have attracted attention abroad, with Portuguese side Vitoria SC reportedly making a R40 million bid for him during the previous transfer window. However, the deal fell through, and du Preez remained at Chiefs.
According to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs are now looking to secure du Preez’s future by offering him a contract extension. A source close to the situation stated, “It’s on the cards. They have not received anything in writing yet, but something will happen soon. All parties are happy with the situation, which is why Chiefs have offered him another two years on his contract until June 2027. Despite a few poor performances, the club still believes in him. By January, everything should be settled.”
Another source revealed that Chiefs want to avoid letting du Preez’s contract run down, potentially losing him on a free transfer. “I believe the new deal will be signed before the January transfer window closes, ensuring he doesn’t become a free agent. Chiefs can’t afford to lose their top striker like that. There is interest in him, and the club could make money if they eventually sell him. They will ensure they tie him down as soon as possible,” the source added.
As Chiefs fans, what do you think? Are you happy to see du Preez sign a new deal, or do you believe it’s time to cash in on him as soon as January? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
