Paula Badosa is poised for a strong start to 2025 after a successful comeback year in 2024, during which she regained her competitive edge and aimed for the top positions in the WTA rankings. The former world No. 2 from Spain is kicking off her season at the Brisbane International, filled with optimism and confidence to compete against the best in the sport.
In a recent interview ahead of the Australian tournament, the 27-year-old shared her expectations for the upcoming year and insights into her preparations.
“I’m really looking forward to this new season. Australia is one of my favorite places to play tennis, so I’m excited to be back here. I believe my preseason went very well; in fact, I think it was one of the best of my career. I worked hard with clear goals in mind, and I hope to see the results of that effort soon,” Badosa said.
Reflecting on her tumultuous 2024 season, she noted, “Last year was a rollercoaster. It was tough, but also comforting and valuable. Coming back from an injury, I initially questioned whether I could perform at my best while still in pain. I faced numerous challenges, but I’m proud of my determination. Winning the Comeback of the Year award was a goal I set at the beginning of the season, and achieving it was a great reward.”
Badosa concluded the interview by outlining her ambitions for 2025. “On the court, I want to maintain my performance level, be among the best in the world, and reach the final stages of tournaments, with hopes of winning some. I also want to enjoy competing against the top players. Personally, I feel I’m in a great place in my life, surrounded by wonderful people, which adds to my happiness,” she explained.
